Iran is calling for other countries in the Middle East to impose sanctions and an embargo on Israel in the aftermath of a blast at a Gaza hospital, leaving hundreds dead.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian issued a statement calling for “an immediate and complete embargo on Israel,” which included oil sanctions and the expulsion of “Israeli ambassadors” if they support the Israeli government, according to Reuters.

“The foreign minister calls for an immediate and complete embargo on Israel by Islamic countries, including oil sanctions, in addition to expelling Israeli ambassadors if relations with the Zionist regime have been established,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

All Islamic countries must sanction and implement an oil embargo on Israel, in addition to expelling Israeli ambassadors, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.#Israel | #Iran https://t.co/xH3gx4qKdb

Amirabdollahian’s call for sanctions to be imposed on Israel comes as members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are set to meet in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Countries such as Azerbaijan, Jordan, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iran, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, and Malaysia are among the members of the OIC.

On Tuesday a blast at a hospital in Gaza left at least 500 people dead. The Israeli government said that an errant Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket had been responsible for the explosion at the hospital in Gaza. Immediately after the blast Hamas and others incorrectly blamed Israel for the explosion.

President Joe Biden informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a joint press conference in Tel Aviv that it appeared that “the other team, not you,” had been behind the airstrike, according to The Guardian.

“Based on what I’ve seen, it appears as though it was done by the other team, not you,” Biden said. “But there’s a lot of people out there not sure, so we’ve got to overcome a lot of things.”
