Radio host Charlamagne Tha God sparred with “The View” co-hosts Wednesday on whether President Joe Biden lied about pardoning his son, Hunter Biden.

Biden issued a “full and unconditional” pardon for his son on Sunday after he repeatedly assured the American public that he would not grant one to Hunter over his conviction, pending cases or potential criminal charges against him. The co-hosts rebuked Charlamagne for arguing that Biden blatantly lied about his plans to pardon his son and for criticizing Democrats over their alleged “moral high ground.”

“The criticism is valid because you know, Democrats stand on this moral high ground all the time and they act so self-righteous,” Charlamagne said. “The reality is, he didn’t have to say anything in regard to whether or not his son wanted to be pardoned. He couldn’t said ‘hey man, I’m not focused on that right now.’ But since they’re calling a threat to democracy and they were saying ‘nobody is above the law,’ but they were speaking about him. That’s what they were running on … [Biden] didn’t believe that. He didn’t have to volunteer that lie to begin with.”

“I’m gonna stop you for a second, only because you don’t know that it was a lie. We don’t know why he changed his mind,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg interjected, leading Charlamagne to scoff at the idea that Biden simply changed his mind. “I’m gonna tell you what I think. I think he changed his mind because he got sick of watching everybody else get over. And this is just my feeling, because at some point you just get to the place where you go ‘so I’m just gonna follow the straight arrow always, because that’s what’s expected of Democrats.’”

Charlamagne argued that Democrats need to stop attempting to take the “moral high ground” by saying “nobody is above the law” and then accuse the Department of Justice of politically attacking Hunter. Goldberg then complained that everyone “clutches their pearls” whenever Biden does anything they disagree with, leading Charlamagne to say that both political parties “refuse to be objective” about the flaws and wrongdoings committed by their own side.

“But that’s not a monolith,” Goldberg replied. “We’re not, Democrats are not a monolith.”

“Then why can’t you say when Democrats are wrong?” Charlamagne asked. “And why can’t Republicans say when Republicans are wrong? You don’t think Joe Biden is wrong? Then that’s ridiculous.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin argued that Biden pardoned Hunter in order to protect him from President-elect Donald Trump’s alleged plan to take revenge on his political enemies. Charlamagne replied that neither Biden or Trump have the moral high ground and once again criticized the lack of objectivity in politics.

The president pardoned his son from all convicted crimes or pending criminal charges committed between Jan. 1, 2014 and Dec. 1, 2024, including any potential charges relating to his overseas business dealings and time served on the board of Burisma, a now-defunct Ukrainian energy company.

A Delaware jury convicted Hunter on three felony counts relating to his purchase of a Colt Cobra in 2018 while knowingly being addicted to drugs and for writing false information on his purchase form. He also faced up to 17 years in prison regarding nine charges alleging that he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.
