Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) warned women about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), suggesting Republicans want him to regulate “your uterus.”

During a speech on the House floor Thursday, Omar questioned why lawmakers who advocate for small government would want to regulate abortion.

“But it’s shocking to me that all of this is being championed, and it’s coming from a party that believes in small government – party that talks about freedom, liberty,” Omar said.

She continued, “And this is the party now that wants to do everything that they can to tell women what decisions they can make about their reproductive rights.”

Omar argued, “They want somebody like Senator Ted Cruz regulating your uterus. They want Senator Chuck Grassley having authority over your body. We have to say no.”

Additionally, Omar explained if “you care about women’s rights, you should be outraged by this decision. If you care about a woman’s right to choose, you should be outraged. If you care about women having access to healthcare, you should be outraged by this decision.”

Politico reported earlier this month a leaked draft opinion shows the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade.

A bill to codify the right to an abortion failed in the Senate this week.

Omar previously argued overturning the ruling “would put the lives of women across the country at risk. It would fly in the face of decades of precedent and the overwhelming majority of public opinion. And they will not stop here.”

She added, “Expand the court.”

The lawmaker called for an expansion of the court in October 2020, reminding Americans, “Republicans have lost 6 of the last 7 popular votes, but have appointed 6 of the last 9 justices.”

She continued, “By expanding the court we fix this broken system and have the court better represent the values of the American people.”

The nine Supreme Court justices met behind closed doors for the first time on Thursday since the opinion was leaked, as Fox News reported.
