Radio hosts Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy criticized the Democratic Party’s strategy to resist President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Journalist Morgyn Wood said on the “Front Page News” segment of “The Breakfast Club” that certain Democrats have condemned Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for supporting a GOP-backed government funding bill, arguing he “should be opposing Trump’s agenda at every turn.” Charlamagne and Envy disagreed with the strategy, asserting it could hurt Americans who might benefit from Trump’s agenda.

“I don’t think that you should, you know, push back against the agenda just because you don’t like a person,” Charlamagne said.

Envy noted the way Wood characterized Democratic backlash against Schumer made it seem like Democrats want to resist “anything that Trump does.”

“What happens if you like it?” Envy asked.

Charlamagne claimed some Democrats want to constantly oppose Trump because of how Republicans resisted former President Barack Obama’s agenda. However, he said he disapproves of that approach.

“If something benefits the people, you got to go [with] what benefits the people,” Envy responded.

“Exactly, ’cause this is a bipartisan government. You have Republicans and Democrats, and you need Republicans and Democrats to get things done,” Charlamagne said. “So, I don’t think — I don’t agree with the logic of just pushing back because you don’t agree, you know, because you don’t like a person or because you don’t like a party.”

Trump has backed policies with vast public support, such as barring biological males from female sports, deporting illegal immigrants and reducing government waste.

However, nearly two-thirds of Democrats do not want their congressional lawmakers to make compromises with the president, regardless of whether it impedes bipartisan advancements, according to a March 16 NBC News poll.

Moreover, Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett admitted during a Sunday interview that she was prioritizing resisting Trump over passing legislation.

“I should probably be a better politician and tell you, ‘Yes, we’ve got all this amazing legislation that I can absolutely imagine Donald Trump signing into law.’ I’m just not gon’ lie … right now, I can tell you that, unfortunately, I am not working towards very much that I would consider being the progress train,” Crockett said. “I am working to make sure that I can minimize the regress train right now. And I think— and I hope — that my district appreciates that I am being honest with them.”

Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand also said during a March 5 podcast that she struggles to back Trump’s “popular” ideas because she thinks he is cruel.

“He’s really leaned into this populism, which is, as is typical, populism is popular. And what has been hardest for a lot of people like me to deal with is that he’s so disingenuous. He doesn’t mean it. And he says things that could be popular with everyone, but then does it in the meanest, most divisive way possible,” she said. “And he just takes that oxygen out of the room every time. So it’s just disappointing. You want a president to be a president for all people and he keeps choosing not to be that guy.”
