Hunter Biden was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday on three firearms charges regarding his unlawful possession of a gun while on drugs.

The indictment from Special Counsel David Weiss came after he had revealed in court he intended to have a grand jury return an indictment on President Joe Biden’s son before the end of September as part of the Speedy Trial Act.

Hunter Biden was charged with making false statements and with the “acquisition of a firearm” Colt Cobra 38SPL in October 2018 along with knowingly possessing a firearm while using or addicted to a controlled substance, according to the court filing.

“The Speedy Trial Act requires that the government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest,” Weiss’ filing said.

In July, a plea deal Hunter Biden appeared in federal court in Delaware and was set to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges.

Hunter Biden was expected to accept a plea deal but that fell through after Federal District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika questioned whether his plea deal would give him immunity from prosecution for other crimes.

Hunter Biden faces a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $250,000 for the first and third charges, and a five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine for the second charge, according to a defendant information sheet.
