Hunter Biden Hit With 9 Tax Charges, Accused of Spending on an ‘Extravagant Lifestyle,’ Instead of ‘Tax Bills’

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE - JULY 26: Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building and United States Courthouse on July 26, 2023 in Wilmington, Delaware. Biden pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges in a deal with prosecutors to avoid prosecution on an additional gun charge. However, the federal judge overseeing the case unexpectedly delayed Biden's plea deal and deferred her decision until more information is put forth by both the prosecution and the defense. Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is facing new federal charges stemming from Special Counsel David David Weiss’ investigation.

On Thursday evening, Hunter Biden was charged with three felonies and six misdemeanors.

In a statement, Weiss accused the president’s adult son of spending “millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills.”

Prosecutor Leo Wise alleged in the charging document Hunter Biden spent money on drugs, strippers, and luxury hotels. Or as he put it, “Everything but his taxes.”

The Associated Press explained the charges revolve around $1.4 million in taxes Hunter Biden owed from 2016 to 2019 while he was struggling with addiction.

It also pointed lout the back taxes have been paid.

If convicted, he could spend a maximum of 17 years in prison.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowe, claimed the charges were political as he asserted prosecutors were “bowing to Republican pressure.”

“Based on the facts and the law, if Hunter’s last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought,” Lowe said in a statement.

The news comes as Hunter Biden is facing federal firearm charges stemming from allegations he lied on a form in 2018 to acquire a gun.

He pleaded guilty to the charges in October after a plea deal fell apart in court.

A trial in that case could happen in 2024 while his father is in the midst of his re-election bid.
