Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wants you to know the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol could have been so much better if she was actually behind it.

During an event hosted by the New York Young Republican Club on Saturday, the Georgia Congresswoman pushed back on the idea she had a hand in planning the events of that day.

“I want to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won. Not to mention, we would’ve been armed,” Greene said.

This is such a bizarre and twisted thing to brag about.

Watch the video below:

She might as well just say, “Believe me, folks, no one can throw out millions of legal votes from our fellow citizens like I can when it serves my interests.”

What constitutes winning?

Throwing out the votes of millions of people in the hope that somehow the country would not splinter and simply accept that former President Donald Trump would be president for four more years — despite him losing the popular vote and not reaching the required 270 electoral votes?

There is no evidence widespread fraud swung the results of the 2020 election. And there is nothing patriotic about trying to disenfranchise millions of Americans because you are mad your preferred candidate lost.

And the last part of her comment should leave gun owners, who actually care about gun safety and protecting the Second Amendment, aghast.

Just why exactly would they have been armed if Greene helped organize the riot?

One would like to look for the best-intentioned meaning of her comment. However, there is no good reason to say “we would’ve been armed” when talking about storming the U.S. Capitol, fighting with law enforcement, and throwing out millions of votes.

The best worst-case scenario is Greene was implying law enforcement would have realized the mob was armed and stood down to avoid mass bloodshed, and allowed them to enter the Capitol, disrupt the certification process, and overturn the election.

But there are also a lot of scenarios where armed, angry rioters break into the Capitol to try to overturn the election that end very tragically.

The loss of life on Jan. 6 was tragic and shameful. And it should be remembered as a dark day in American history.

It is not something to be celebrated or seen as a missed opportunity.

And this is not the kind of language we should be expecting from our elected officials.
