Former Vice President Al Gore is urging those who continue to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn election results to prioritize the nation’s needs.

CNN’s Jake Tapper noted several Republicans have thrown their support behind a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn election results in four states.

“I would encourage those who are still supporting the lost cause of President Trump’s reelection, to put the country first and I’m going to express the hope, Jake, that with the Electoral College votes tomorrow and all 50 states and with the President-elect Biden receiving the majority, that that will be a point at which some of those who have hung on, will give up the ghost,” Gore said.

He added, “It’s hard to escape the interpretation that they’re frightened that President Trump will tweet them into political oblivion if they don’t do exactly what he says. But, you know, there are things more important than bowing to the fear of a demagogue.”

The Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit Friday, as IJR previously reported.

Gore said the lawsuit “got the result that it deserved.”

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) relayed a similar message during his appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday, as IJR previously reported.

Alexander explained when the members of the Electoral College cast their votes Monday, he hopes Trump will accept the results.

“And when they do, I hope that he puts the country first — I mean the president. That he takes pride in his considerable accomplishments. That he congratulates the president-elect and helps him get off to a good start,” Alexander said.

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said in a statement Friday, “every American who cares about the rule of law should take comfort that the Supreme Court — including all three of President Trump’s picks — closed the book on the nonsense.”
