Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) expressed concern for his staff after receiving a threatening voicemail over his vote for the infrastructure bill.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper noted Monday night Upton was one of the 13 Republicans to vote for the bill. He then played a voicemail Upton received in response to his vote.

“F****ing traitor. That’s what you are. You’re a f***ing piece of s**t traitor. I hope you die. I hope everybody in your f***ing family dies. You f***ing piece of s**t trash mother****er,” the individual said.

The voicemail continues, “Voted for dumb*** f***ing Biden? You’re stupider than he is. He can’t even complete a f***ing sentence.”

The individual went on to tell Upton he hopes everyone in his staff dies.

Cooper explained, “We’re told by your office this was not an isolated incident.”

He asked Upton, “How concerned are you?”

The Republican responded, “It’s a real step back. Thank goodness it wasn’t a constituent.”

He argued, “We have seen civility really downslide here. I’m concerned about my staff. They are taking these calls.”

Calling the messages “very disturbing” and “adult language,” Upton added, “To say the least, that truly is frightening.”

After voting to support the bill, Upton tweeted, “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill is commonsense legislation that will support critical infrastructure projects in MI without raising taxes or increasing the debt. It will help rebuild our highways and harbors, replace lead waterpipes in Benton Harbor and across the country…expand broadband to underserved communities, strengthen our energy grid against Russian and Chinese cyberattacks and create jobs across SW MI.”

He added, “I regret that this good, bipartisan bill became a political football in recent weeks. Our country can’t afford this partisan dysfunction any longer.”
