House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) officially scheduled a vote to recall Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 House Republican.

In a letter on Monday, McCarthy wrote that there should be a vote anticipated for Wednesday.

“This is no time to take our eye off the ball,” McCarthy wrote. “If we are to succeed in stopping the radical Democrat agenda from destroying our country, these internal conflicts need to be resolved so as to not detract from the efforts of our collective team.”

“Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair on Wednesday.”

He continued, “Unlike the left, we embrace free thought and debate,” adding that leadership “cannot afford to be distracted from the important work we were elected to do and the shared goals we hope to achieve. The stakes are too high to come up short.”

Axios reported last week that McCarthy was caught on a hot mic before an interview saying, “I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. … Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”

McCarthy has backed replacing Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

Cheney penned an op-ed in The Washington Post last week where she called on Republicans to “stand for genuinely conservative principles, and steer away from the dangerous and anti-democratic Trump cult of personality.”

“History is watching. Our children are watching. We must be brave enough to defend the basic principles that underpin and protect our freedom and our democratic process,” she also wrote.
