Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is putting his trust in the COVID-19 vaccine and is suggesting others do the same.

“I’d take one right now. I’ll take two right now. I hear a lot of ‘I’m not gonna take it, because I don’t know what’s in it.’ And you know what I tell them? Do you eat hot dogs? You don’t know what’s in hot dogs, but you eat them. Take the vaccine,” Kennedy said.

Some top Trump administration officials have received the vaccine.

Vice President Mike Pence, his wife, Second Lady Karen Pence and U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams received the vaccine publicly on Friday, as IJR previously reported.

“I didn’t feel a thing. We’re gathered here today at the end of a historic week to affirm to the American people that hope is on the way,” Pence said.

He added, “I also believe that history will record that this week was the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic. But with cases rising across the country, with hospitalizations rising across the country, we have a ways to go.”

Trump indicated earlier this week he will get the vaccine but has no plans on doing so yet.

President-elect Joe Biden is expected to receive the vaccine next week, as IJR previously reported.

“I don’t want to get ahead of the line but I want to make sure that we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take,” Biden said Wednesday.

During his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Biden revealed he could thank Trump for getting the ball rolling on the vaccine.

“There are some things. I think what he’s done, getting the vaccine moving, has been positive,” Biden said.

Other lawmakers have urged Americans to get the vaccine and expressed confidence in it themselves.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement this week, “All Americans should have full confidence in the vaccines, knowing that they were reviewed and recommended by the FDA’s advisory panel’s independent experts.”

She plans to get the vaccine in “the next few days.”
