A local police department is applauding the heroic act of several people who risked their own lives to help a woman after she suffered a “medical episode.”

A traffic camera captured the moment when the woman’s co-worker jumped out of her own car as she witnessed the vehicle crossing into the intersection.

As she signaled for help, other drivers got out of their cars and ran to the scene.

In a Facebook post, the Boynton Beach Police Department detailed the events that took place that day.

“Several people got out of their cars and worked together to stop the moving car. One woman grabbed a dumbbell from her car and a man used it to smash the rear passenger’s side window,” the post read.

The post continued, “Another man then climbed through the window to unlock the passenger’s side door. The car was then put in park and the Good Samaritans pushed it to a nearby 7-Eleven parking lot where a nurse who was on the phone with 911 provided medical attention until the fire department arrives.”

In an interview with WPBF, one of the people who helped during the rescue, Davita Peele, shared that she had just gotten off of work when she came across the scene and that her decision to go a different direction than usual that day, “helped someone avoid getting into an even worse accident.”

Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”

A message given to People from BBPD Public Information Officer Stephanie Slater said, “I don’t think it’s an understatement to say that it is serving as an inspiration of goodness in our country today.”

Thankfully there were no casualties and with the help of Facebook users, the police department shared in an update that they were able to get in touch with “several of the Good Samaritans” and are trying to connect them with the woman who rescued.
