Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is advising former President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to focus on the issue at hand instead of each other.

“We are much better off if we keep focusing on the Democrats. Period,” Gingrich said as he left Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, according to The Associated Press.

During an event at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida on Saturday, the former president reportedly took a swing at McConnell for failing to put a stop to the impeachment trial against him, as IJR reported.

“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a b***h Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” he said.

Trump also called him a “stone cold loser.”

Just days after the Senate acquitted him on the charge of inciting an insurrection, Trump issued a scathing statement torching McConnell.

“The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political ‘leaders’ like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm… Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack,” Trump said.

McConnell reportedly read the statement and laughed.

In another statement, Trump claimed one of the reasons Republicans lost the two special elections for Georgia’s Senate seats was because McConnell decided to block a move to increase stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000 per person.

“Even more stupidly, the National Republican Senatorial Committee spent millions of dollars on ineffective TV ads starring Mitch McConnell, the most unpopular politician in the country, who only won in Kentucky because President Trump endorsed him,” Trump said.

He added, “[McConnell] would have lost badly without this endorsement.”
