California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and President Donald Trump continued their war of words on Monday.

Newsom, during an appearance on “The View,” declared California the most “un-Trump state in America.” His comment came after he was asked about Trump criticizing California in his State of the Union address, when the president remarked that it was “costing taxpayers vast and unaffordable amounts of money.”

“We are the most un-Trump state in America,” Newsom said. “We are also the most diverse state in America.”

Newsom also told “The View’s” anchors that Trump is “scared of California” because it proves that progressive economic values can work at scale. If California were a country, it would have the fifth-largest economy in the world.

“We’re also prospering together across every conceivable difference,” Newsom said. “Twenty-one-and-a-half-billion-dollar operating surplus. Record low unemployment. One out of seven jobs in America since 2011 have come from the state of California.”

Newsom and Trump have repeatedly gone after each with words and lawsuits. The state of California has sued Trump for everything from his executive orders on climate regulations to his immigration policies. Two Democratic representatives from California — Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff — are also frequent targets of Trump’s ire.

Asked if he would consider running for vice president in 2020, Newsom declined.

“Honestly, I have no interest in that,” he said. “I love my job. I really do love my job.”
