Fox News is breaking its silence on Twitter.

After taking time away from the social media platform since 2018, Fox News is using Twitter as part of their larger strategy they are doing in terms of serving their audience in coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.

Posting to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, the network — which has 18.5 million followers on the platform — wrote how they are making its channel free for anyone to watch, as Variety first reported.

Reactivating their Twitter account comes along with other initiatives by Fox News — including between noon and 1 p.m., they have medical experts answering questions surrounding the coronavirus.

Prior to their return to the platform, Fox News’ last tweet was on Nov. 8, 2018, about the federal appeals court ruling against the Trump administration on the DACA program. The silence reportedly came after Twitter stalled on deleting a tweet with Tucker Carlson’s address, as a mob also protested outside his home, as IJR previously noted.

Twitter itself is also taking action regarding the coronavirus. They announced on Wednesday that they are expanding their “safety rules to include content that could place people at a higher risk of transmitting COVID-19,” as IJR reported. It includes taking down misinformation on the platform.
