Dr. Anthony Fauci is calling on all Americans to do their part in ending the coronavirus outbreak as parts of the nation see a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, encouraged Americans to continue to practice social distancing.

“You have an individual responsibility to yourself but you have a societal responsibility, because if we want to end this outbreak — really end it, and then hopefully when a vaccine comes and puts the nail in the coffin — we’ve got to realize that we are part of the process,” Fauci said at Friday’s White House coronavirus task force briefing.

Appearing before the Energy and Commerce Committee during the “Oversight of the Trump Administration’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic” hearing on Tuesday, Fauci expressed his concern with the surge in coronavirus infections, as IJR previously reported.

States including Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California have seen a significant rise in coronavirus infections.

Fauci predicted the next few weeks are going to be critical in addressing the surges.

As of Friday evening, there are more than 2,000,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States and nearly 125,000 deaths.

Fauci reiterated Americans can either be part of the solution or part of the problem.

He noted although some states throughout the nation have done well in containing the outbreak, they are not immune from the spread.

“If we don’t extinguish the outbreak, sooner or later, even ones that are doing well are going to be vulnerable to the spread,” Fauci said.

He added, “So we need to take that into account because we are all in it together, and the only way we’re going to end it is by ending it together.”
