Dr. Anthony Fauci is discussing the “false narrative” that is now being associated with the coronavirus due to the decrease in the death rate.

During a video conference hosted by Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.), Fauci expressed concerns about the lacking level of seriousness in regard to the coronavirus and its ongoing, accelerated spread.

“I want to emphasize,” Fauci said, adding, “It’s a false narrative to take comfort in a lower rate of death. There are so many things that are dangerous and bad about this virus. Don’t get yourself into a false complacency.”

Fauci’s latest remarks come as the United States’ seven-day average in coronavirus cases sets a record high for the 27th straight day. More than 37 states are now seeing significant increases in the number of new cases.

State and local officials raised concerns about the possibility of spikes in states where reopenings may have happened too quickly.

However, due to the economic downturn as a result of the shutdown, many Republican-run states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Arizona previously ignored warnings and moved forward with reopening despite not meeting the recommended requirements to reopen.

See Fauci’s remarks below:

But despite the uptick in cases, the average number of daily coronavirus deaths has decreased or stayed relatively level.

In the wake of the latest surge in cases, Fauci is continuing to stress the importance of taking the virus seriously due to its many unknown variables, as previously reported on IJR.

“What we’ve seen over the last several days is a spike in cases that are way beyond the worst spikes that we’ve seen. That is not good news. We’ve got to get that under control, or we risk an even greater outbreak in the United States.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are more than three million coronavirus cases in the United States. The death toll is now over 133,000.
