Dr. Anthony Fauci is weighing in on the possibility of in-person voting for the November general election.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director shared his opinion when he appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper on Easter Sunday.

Fauci was asked about the upcoming election and whether or not it would be safe to physically head to the polls head to the polls and vote.

“Do you think it will be safe in November for voters to physically go to vote at the polls?” asked Tapper.

“I hope so, Jake,” replied Fauci. “I can’t guarantee it.”

Fauci went on to reiterate the importance of maintaining the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to flatten the curve.

He added that with a “good measured way of rolling into this steps toward normality that we hope by the time we get to November that we’ll be able to do it in a way that’s the standard way.”

See Fauci’s remarks below:

However, Fauci did note one possibility that could impact Americans’ hope for normalcy.

“So, number one, I hope we don’t have a rebound that would make this very difficult as we get into November. But if we do, and there certainly is a possibility, I’m a realist, it certainly is a possibility, hopefully, we’ll be able to respond to that rebound in a much more effective way than what we’ve seen now in January, February, March.”

Fauci’s latest interview follows a string of reports detailing his stance on the coronavirus outbreak and all that is has effected. Many Americans have not only raised concerns about the virus but also its potential longterm effect on the economy.

Most recently, Fauci was asked about the possibility of a normal summer with full human interaction, as previously reported on IJR. As with the possibility of physical voting, Fauci emphasized that the summer outcome would be contingent on preparation.

“The answer to your question is yes,” Fauci said about the possibility of a normal summer adding, “If we do the things that we need to do to prevent the resurgence.”

The general election is scheduled for November 3, 2020.
