Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza expressed frustration with “liberal Democrats” in a Monday video, accusing them of justifying their actions based on their belief that President Donald Trump is an “existential threat.” Cillizza, on his YouTube channel, raised the example of former President Joe Biden pardoning his son Hunter, asserting that left-wing individuals defend such actions by critiquing Trump. During a conversation with NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd, Cillizza noted the dangerous precedent of justifying political moves based on the perceived “threat” Trump allegedly poses. WATCH: “It’s like, yeah, of course Trump would pardon Don Jr. … but Joe Biden expressly ran in 2020 on, ‘I’m going to restore honor and dignity to the White House. I’m not going to operate in this kind of cronyism,'” Cillizza said before Todd interrupted him. “Can I just tell you, this is my small knowledge of how algorithms work, but you know, no more ‘if-then’ statements anywhere or ‘if-then’ rationales, okay? It’s destroying society by pounding people with what they think they want to see all the time, and then it’s also ruining our politics because we sit there and point out, ‘Well, if them, then we do it this way,’ and it’s just rotting us,” Todd said. Cillizza suggested this way of political maneuvering is a “slippery slope,” which Todd agreed with. “The thing that always makes me insane about liberal Democrats is basically it’s like — and this was true of their sort of like pushback against the Hunter Biden pardon —’Well, I mean, Trump’s a felon.’ And I was like, ‘Well, yeah, but like it’s a slippery slope,'” the former CNN analyst continued. “Like, you can just — if you think Donald Trump is an existential threat, well then, this is to your point you made, Chuck — it’s like, well, what are the tactics that should be used against him? Well, I mean, you can justify anything. Say, ‘Well, we can’t have him in office, therefore we should cheat because him being in office justifies anything we do.’ It’s like, man, talk about a slippery slope.” Biden on Monday also preemptively pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley and Jan. 6 committee member in the last hours of his presidency, stating that they do not deserve to be “targets of unjustified and politically motivated prosecutions.” Moreover, the then-president pardoned his brothers and other family members just moments before Trump’s swearing-in at his inauguration. Biden’s brothers Frank and James were linked to Hunter Biden’s business dealings with overseas partners. “I believe in the rule of law, and I am optimistic that the strength of our legal institutions will ultimately prevail over politics,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House. “But baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals and their families. Even when individuals have done nothing wrong and will ultimately be exonerated, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably damage their reputations and finances.” All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience.
