Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is weighing in on the upcoming vote to recall Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the No. 3 House Republican.

Speaking on House Republicans’ efforts to purge Cheney of her leadership position, Ernst said on Wednesday, “Cancel culture is cancel culture, no matter how you look at it,” according to CNN’s Manu Raju.

However, Ernst, who is a supporter of former President Donald Trump, also said, “I support President Trump and his policies, so I have a slightly different view on that — but I still think we shouldn’t be trying to cancel voices.”

Ernst is the vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) came to Cheney’s defense, saying on Monday, “She is being run out for one thing: her consistency. She said the exact same thing that (House Minority Leader) Kevin McCarthy said on January 6, which is Donald Trump is responsible” for the riot on January 6.

He added, “You cannot unite with lies, if somebody is going to use lies to gain power and say, ‘Let’s have unity,’ you can’t do it. ‘We need to remove Liz Cheney because she makes me have to answer questions that I know are false.’ That’s what they’re saying.”

McCarthy wrote in a letter on Monday, “Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair on Wednesday,” as IJR reported on.
