SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 03: Tesla CEO Elon Musk leaves the Phillip Burton Federal Building on February 03, 2023 in San Francisco, California. Closing arguments have wrapped up in the trial where investors are suing Tesla and Elon Musk, its chief executive officer, over his August 2018 tweets where he said he was taking Tesla private with funding that he secured. The tweet was found to be false and cost shareholders billions of dollars when Tesla's stock price began to fluctuate wildly allegedly based on the tweet. (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

Twitter users were quick to react after seeing a photo of Elon Musk sitting with News Corp chair and Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch at the Super Bowl.

Writer Molly Jong-Fast shared a photo of Musk sitting next to Murdoch at the game Sunday with the caption, “Rupert Murdoch and Elon musk because of course.”

Columnist Jim Souhan tweeted, “Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk sitting together. I assume Satan couldn’t make it because of a Nickelback concert.”

Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk at the Super Bowl: the princes of darkness meet.

Elon Musk sitting next to Rupert Murdoch at the Super Bowl. Rightwing billionaire media moguls gotta stick together, I guess. But remember that image next time you hear Musk pretending to be anti-elitist or anti-Establishment or anti the media, or some kind of populist. Lol.

Any claims of serving truth or free speech or “the light of consciousness” or being anti-elite or a populist are very, very hard to defend when you choose to sit next to Rupert Murdoch, @elonmusk. pic.twitter.com/m1m5evO0Jz

Musk himself appeared to share what he discussed with Murdoch during the game.

Responding to a tweet asking what they talked about, Musk replied, “Dogecoin.”

Business Insider noted the tweet led the meme token to surge as much as 5% on Monday.

Musk has notably been a long-time advocate of dogecoin, as he adopted it as a form of payment in the merchandise store for his company Tesla, per Insider.

In December, The New York Times published an article about Musk’s politics titled, “Critics Say Musk Has Revealed Himself as a Conservative. It’s Not So Simple.”

The Times explained, “While he has not been shy about sharing his disdain for many Democrats, his enthusiasm for Republicans has been more muted. He has stressed repeatedly that his problems are with extremists on both ends of the political spectrum.”

Musk took to Twitter in November to comment on his politics.

“To be clear, my historical party affiliation has been Independent, with an actual voting history of entirely Democrat until this year,” Musk tweeted at the time.

He added, “And I’m open to the idea of voting Democrat again in the future.”
