Tesla CEO Elon Musk will be joining Twitter’s board of directors.

CEO Parag Agrawal tweeted, “I’m excited to share that we’re appointing [Elon Musk] to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board.”

He added, “He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on [Twitter], and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term.

Concluding his tweet, Agrawal wrote, “Welcome Elon!”

Former Twitter chief Jack Dorsey celebrated the news.

The news comes just one day after it was reported that Musk purchased a 9.2% stake in the social media company after raising questions about the relationship between free speech and the platform.

Musk’s roughly 73.5 million shares are worth approximately $2.89 billion.

His stake makes him the largest individual shareholder in the company.

On Monday, Elon Musk issued a three-word tweet after making the purchase.

“Oh hi lol,” he wrote.

Last month, Elon musk posted a poll on Twitter asking whether users believe the social media company “rigorously adheres” to the principle of free speech.

He continued, “The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully.”

The Washington Post noted Musk also polled users “about the possibility of adding an edit button, a longtime source of contention among the app’s users and leadership.”

According to CNBC, “Agrawal retweeted the post, urging people to ‘vote carefully’ as the consequences ‘will be important.'”
