A man has been arrested in connection with the 1996 drive-by shooting, which led to the death of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested by Las Vegas police on Friday morning, officials close to the arrest told the Associated Press.

The arrest of Davis comes after he has previously admitted in interviews that he had been in the Cadillac where shots were fired in the September 1996 drive-by shooting which led to Shakur’s death. In Davis’ 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” he reportedly admits he was in the vehicle during the night of the shooting.

Shakur was 25.

“It’s so long overdue,” Greg Kading, a retired police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, told the outlet. “People have been yearning for him to be arrested for a long time. It’s never been unsolved in our minds. It’s been unprosecuted.”

In July, police raided the home of Davis’ wife in search of items “concerning the murder of Tupac Shakur.” Davis was the uncle of Orlando Anderson, who denied any involvement in the death of Shakur. Two years later, Anderson died as a result of a gang shooting in Compton, California.

At the time of his death, Shakur’s fourth solo album, “All Eyez on Me” had been fourth in the charts.

Davis is expected to be indicted later today.
