Former Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) is sharing that he will not be running for any office in the next election cycle.

Collins campaigned against former Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) in Georgia’s recent special election.

He made the announcement on Monday on not being a candidate in the next election cycle, saying it has been “a joy to serve” in both Congress and Georgia Legislature.

The former ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee said he “fought each and every day to uphold our Constitutional rights and the freedoms we cherish.”

“For those who may wonder, this is goodbye for now, but probably not forever,” Collins wrote in a statement. “I do plan on staying involved in shaping our conservative message to help Republicans win back the House and the Senate and help more strong conservative candidates get elected here in Georgia.”

He added, “I believe that we, as conservatives, must be able to clearly communicate our values and I will help keep that fight going.”

Collins’ announcement comes after he spoke to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and was “seriously considering” a Senate run against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), as CNN’s Manu Raju notes. Even though Collins’ campaign was torched so that Loeffler could secure the primary, Collins was told that the NRSC was “not going to get involved in open primaries,” as CNN reports.
