A black and white cat named Mowgli was rescued after falling down a 100-foot mine shaft, thanks to his doggie sibling, Daisy.

According to the BBC News, Mowgli had been missing for six days when owner Michele Rose had “almost given up hope.”

But then, her dog Daisy figured out where Mowgli was and started “going berserk,” and racing around the woods around their residence in Harrowbarrow, England.

Daisy led Rose through a footpath that led to the abandoned Prince of Wales mine. “She was persistent in making me follow her, it was amazing,” Rose stated.

The dog then stopped “dead in her tracks” beside the shaft. Rose realized where her cat was and noted, “Without Daisy doing that Mowgli could still be down there, that’s for sure.”

Rose called for help getting the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and the Cornwall Fire and Rescue involved, but by the time she reached them, the day had grown “too dark” for the rescue.

Daisy and Rose would have to wait until the next day to see if Mowgli was still alive.

The next morning, RSPCA animal rescue officer Stephen Findlow led a rescue team. They went down into the mine and found Mowgli, uninjured, 100 feet into the shaft.

Mowgli was safely returned home, thanks to the rescuers and Daisy’s keen attention to her feline brother.

Rose’s other cat Baloo, greeted Mowgli after he was safely rescue. Rose adopted Mowgli and Baloo together in 2022 and introduced them to Daisy, who was adopted before them.

Rose said, “Daisy was already a year old when the kittens arrived and they have all been inseparable ever since.”

“She is quite matriarchal and puts up with them. They love her and she’s very protective of them,” she added.
