Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez is taking aim at President Donald Trump over his decision to continue to hold in-person campaign events after 2012 Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain died.

During an interview with POLITICO Playbook, a co-host asked Perez and Democratic National Convention CEO Joe Solmonese if they are concerned about Biden’s inability to interact with voters in person as Trump makes his rounds in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Solmonese explained Trump needs the “roar of a crowd” to remind him he is in control.

He acknowledged the Democratic National Convention and Trump’s campaign events as examples of how each party is approaching the coronavirus pandemic.

Solmonese called Trump’s actions a “political stunt” as he causes “crowds to gather.”

Perez jumped in citing Trump’s Tulsa, Oklahoma rally as an example of how he has failed to act appropriately amid the outbreak.

“Was that a good model for how people should conduct themselves? Ask the family of Herman Cain,” Perez said.

A statement released on his website and Facebook page on July 30 announced Cain died after contracting the coronavirus, as IJR previously reported.

Cain received his coronavirus diagnoses in late June after he attended Trump’s rally in Tulsa.

Trump took to Twitter after the news of Cain’s death spread to praise him as a “powerful voice of freedom,” as IJR previously reported.

Before departing for a trip to Florida on July 31, Trump was asked by a reporter if he was worried Cain caught the coronavirus at his rally.

Trump responded, “No, I don’t think he did.”

The coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep the nation.

There have been an average of 50,543 cases per day over the past week in the United States alone.

On Aug. 17 the nation reported at least 542 new coronavirus related deaths and 40,022 cases.
