Constitutional law professor, Alan Dershowitz, one of former President Donald Trump‘s attorneys from his first impeachment trial, is slamming the former president’s current legal defense team’s strategy.

During an appearance on Newsmax on Tuesday, Dershowitz leveled harsh criticism against Trump attorney Bruce Castor’s defense strategy.

“There is no argument. I have no idea what he’s doing. I have no idea why he’s saying what he’s saying,” he said, adding, “Come on, the American people are entitled to an argument, a constitutional argument.”

He added that he believes Trump’s other lawyer David Schoen would make a constitutional argument against convicting Trump.

“But this just… after all kinds of very strong presentations on the part of the House managers with the videotapes, and the emotional speech by Congressman Raskin, my former student, you know you get up there, you respond,” he added.

Castor argued that the impeachment trial was purely partisan as he claimed that “the majority of the House of Representatives does not want to face Donald Trump as a political candidate in the future.”

He also claimed that “partisan impeachments” would “become commonplace” if the Senate proceeded with its trial of Trump.

Dershowitz admitted that “this is a hard case” and an “emotional case.”

“[Castor] did say, and I think very appropriately, that everybody wants to take revenge when they see a horrible event that took place at the Capitol, but then he went off. I just don’t understand it,” Dershowitz said.

Finally, he said, “Maybe he’ll bring it home, but right now it does not appear to me to be effective advocacy. He may know the senators better than I do. Maybe they want to be buttered up. Maybe they want to be told what great people they are and how he knows two senators. But, boy it’s not the kind of argument I would’ve made.”
