A Democratic congressman from Texas was carjacked at gunpoint in Washington, D.C. on Monday evening.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) was in the Navy Yard neighborhood of the District of Columbia “parking his car” when three armed men came up to Cuellar and proceeded to steal his car, Jacob Hochberg, Cuellar’s chief of staff confirmed in a statement to IJR. Hochberg added that Cuellar had not been harmed during this incident.

“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle,” Hochberg said in his statement.

“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement,” Hochberg added. “Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the Congressman’s vehicle.”

The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed in a statement to IJR that Cuellar had been parking his vehicle around 9:30 p.m. when he had been approached by the three men. Officers from the Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the incident.

“DC’s Metropolitan Police Department and the USCP are investigating an armed carjacking that happened around 9:30 p.m. in DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood,” the Capitol Police said. “The victim has been identified as a Member of Congress, so the USCP has investigators working with MPD on this case.”

The Capitol Police noted that no injuries had been reported and were working to track the suspects down.

This marks the second incident involving a Democratic lawmaker having been a victim of a crime in the nation’s capital. In February, Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn) was assaulted in the elevator of her apartment building.

In another incident, a staffer for Rep. Brad Finstad (R-Minn.) was attacked at gunpoint in June after the Congressional baseball game for charity, according to CBS News.
