Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) is reflecting on how some of his Republican colleagues reacted during the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol amid efforts to downplay the events.

“It’s true some GOP members of Congress who are treating Capitol Police like sh*t were the most scared on the floor,” Gallego tweeted on Thursday.

He added, “Jody Hice took apart a hand sanitizer station to make into a club, Gosar & Biggs were the first to leave the floor and Rep. Clyde was screaming like a banshee.”

Gallego seemingly called out the House Republicans who voted against awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to all police officers who were present on January 6.

Last month, Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) said, “It was not an insurrection. And we cannot call it that and be truthful.”

He explained, “Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol and walked through Statutory Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures.”

Clyde added, “You know, if you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from January the sixth, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”

D.C. Metropolitan police officer Michael Fanone shared his story of how Clyde refused to shake his hand when he visited the Capitol to speak to the 21 House Republicans who voted against awarding the medal to the police officers, as IJR reported.

“I greeted Congressman Clyde. I was very cordial. I extended my hand to shake his hand. He just stared at me. I asked him if he was going to shake my hand and he told me that he didn’t know who I was,” Fanone said during an appearance on CNN on Wednesday.

He claimed Clyde “turned away from me, pulled out his cellphone. It looked like he was attempting to pull up like an audio recording app on his phone.”

Fanone continued, “And again, like never acknowledged me at any point. As soon as the elevator doors opened, he ran as quickly as he could like a coward.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) slammed Clyde for his actions, as IJR reported.

“That’s what happens when you put somebody that has lied to his constituents … in front of a hero,” Kinzinger said on CNN’s “New Day” Thursday.
