Dem State Lawmaker Who Interrupted Kamala Harris During Event Says She Won’t Vote for Biden or Harris

US actress and activist Cynthia Nixon (R) and Delaware State Representative Madinah Wilson-Anton (C), joined by state legislators and activists, launch a hunger strike calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, in front of the White House in Washington, DC, on November 27, 2023. The United States welcomed an agreement on November 27, 2023, to extend a truce between Israel and Hamas by two days, saying it was hopeful the humanitarian pause would continue for longer still. "Of course we welcome the announcement," White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters after mediator Qatar said the initial four-day truce was to be lengthened. A Democratic state lawmaker who interrupted Vice President Kamala Harris during a holiday event says she won’t vote for President Joe Biden or Harris.

Delaware State Rep. Madinah Wilson-Anton revealed during an interview with Politico that if the 2024 Presidential Election “was today” she would not cast her vote for Biden or Harris.

“If the election was today… I wouldn’t be voting for Biden,” Wilson-Anton told the outlet. “I wouldn’t be voting for Kamala Harris. I wouldn’t be voting for [Donald] Trump either, or whoever the Republicans nominee. I’ll be voting for a candidate for governor. I’ll be voting for myself for state rep.”

Wilson-Anton, a Muslim American, was elected to Delaware’s General Assembly in 2020 and represents the 26th Representative District. Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Wilson-Anton has been vocal about her opposition to the Biden Administration’s support of Israel.

Her comments to the outlet come after she was captured on video interrupting Harris during a holiday event to question why she has not called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“Madam Vice President,” Wilson-Anton begins as she takes off the scarf she had been wearing with the words, “Ceasefire” written on it. “I’m the state rep from Delaware. Did you know in Bethlehem they’re not celebrating Christmas? Did you know that in Bethlehem baby Jesus is under rubble?”

“We all believe in Democracy and the right of everyone to have their voice be heard, and so I appreciate you wanting to be heard, but right now I’m speaking,” Harris told Wilson-Anton as she appeared to be escorted out of the event.

Wilson-Anton added while she will not be supporting Biden and Harris in the upcoming election, they still have time to regain support from Muslim Americans.

“If they want Muslim and Arab Americans to support Biden in 2024, then Biden needs to switch course,” Wilson-Anton told the outlet. “He needs to start messaging that he actually cares about Palestinian lives, that he actually cares about human rights by stopping this continued funding of the Israeli military.”

The Biden Administration has faced increased criticism regarding their continued support for Israel in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

At the end of November, Israel and Hamas agreed to a week-long truce which resulted in more than 100 hostages held captive by Hamas being released. Since the truce’s ending, more than 40 White House interns sent a letter addressed to Biden and Harris calling for a permanent ceasefire.

Several Democratic donors have also expressed frustration and betrayal at the Biden administration’s continued support for Israel.

IJR reached out to Wilson-Anton for a comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
