A Democratic governor is comparing the impact of “book bans” in schools to castration.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) sat down for an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki and discussed efforts to limit materials deemed not appropriate, by some, in schools.

Psaki asked, “Why do you think this has become a passion project of some conservatives?”

I continue hearing people making the argument that we’re doing it because we want to prevent our students from having discomfort or guilt,” Moore responded.

He continued, “Because we don’t want our students to be able to really wrestle with these really difficult things in times when they are maturing as individuals and difficult historical points.”

However, the governor claimed that argument is “actually not true” and is instead a “guise.”

Is Moore correct?

Moore went on:

“It’s not about making kids feel uncomfortable. It’s about telling other kids that they shouldn’t understand their own power. It’s castrating them.”

He added, “Because if you know your history you know your power. The reason that I know that every single day I can stand in my own skin and I can stand in my own power is because I know my history.”

Moore urged people not to hold conferences in states where “book banning” is the “highest of priorities for the chief executive of that state.”

“I want to make sure that there are going to be economic consequences,” he added.

His comments come as conservatives are pushing to restrict access to LGBT content in schools and certain concepts about race.

Critics claim conservatives are trying to erase Black history from schools.
