Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) is saying he is willing to do “whatever it takes to save the country,” even if it means risking his health amid the coronavirus crisis.

Patrick sent a statement to Fox News Channels’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” explaining the dangers of allowing this virus to destroy the American Dream for his and other grandparents’ grandchildren.

“I think there are lots of grandparents who would agree with me that I want my grandchildren to live in the America I did,” the statement reads, adding, “I want them to have a shot at the American dream.”

The statement explains how the coronavirus could potentially bring an economic collapse and a collapse of the society as a whole. It also suggests that the nation should give this a couple of weeks then go on living instead of living with uncertainty.

Patrick appeared on the program where Carlson pointed out that he is in the demographic that faces an increased risk. Patrick explained that he is turning 70 years old and is “not living in fear” of the coronavirus but living in fear of what the crisis can do to the country.

The Texas Republican transitioned to discussing how he is willing to risk it for children and the good of the country.

“I’m all in. …What we all care about and what we love more than anything are those children,” Patrick said, adding, “I don’t want the whole country to be sacrificed.”

Watch the interview below:

Patrick called on Americans to take the proper precautions but to not let this crisis get in the way of getting back to work and back to normal.

“Let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living. Let’s be smart about it,” Patrick said, “And those of us who are seventy plus, we’ll take care of ourselves, but don’t sacrifice the country.”

He went on to explain that the legacy of the country is at great risk.

“If I get sick, I’ll go and try to get better, but if I don’t, I don’t, and I’m not trying to think of any kind of morbid way, Tucker, I’m just saying that we’ve got a choice here and we are going to be in a total collapse, recession, depression, collapse in our society if this goes on another several months, there won’t be any jobs to come back to for many people.”

“It’s worth whatever it takes to save the country,” Patrick added.
