New York Governor Andrew Cuomo shot down the idea that he is hunting for a job in a potential Joe Biden administration.

During an interview on Tuesday Cuomo told ABC, “I am governor of New York and that’s all I want to be.”

Asked by host Amy Robach why not “think of something grander, bigger, presidential,” Cuomo responded, “Because I support Joe Biden for president and I believe he’s going to be the next president.”

He continued, “I am not running for anything. I am governor of New York and that’s all I want to be.”

Robach asked if he would take a cabinet position in a Biden administration and Cuomo quickly said, “Nope, I’m not going — I was in the cabinet. I was in Bill Clinton’s cabinet, been there, done that.”

He continued, “That’s one of the reasons why they distrust politicians because they think there’s a hidden agenda. I don’t want to go to Washington — they couldn’t drag me, they couldn’t force me. I only represent the people of the state, I have no agenda besides theirs.”

See Cuomo’s remarks (starting at 7:20):

Cuomo, who is the son of the late New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, and the brother of CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, said during the “Good Morning America” interview that he took strength from his father during the coronavirus pandemic that devastated New York.

Asked how he would describe the past 100 days in New York, Cuomo responded, “Hell,” adding, “We were the worst per capita — across the globe — we had a higher infection rate than countries. So, we took dramatic action and God bless New Yorkers, they all rallied, they got it.”

New York’s coronavirus rate has dropped over the past month, though it was once the epicenter of the virus. But that trend is not constant across the nation. States like Texas and Florida have recently seen their infection rates surge.
