New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is praising President Donald Trump for providing assistance to New York throughout the coronavirus crisis.

“If the president is helping the state of New York, I’ll be the first person to say so. If we have a difference, I’ll be the first person to say so,” Cuomo said, adding, “And the president has been very helpful.”

Trump tweeted his response to Cuomo’s comments, “New York Governor Cuomo says President Trump has been ‘very helpful.’ … Thank you, everybody is working very hard!”

New York has become the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis as the total number of deaths in the state has reportedly risen to more than 900, as of Tuesday morning.

Cuomo went on to discuss the measures Americans can take to stop the spread of the virus including staying home. He also pointed out how there is a battle for hospitals and their capacity for patients.

He reiterated the amount of stress that the hospital staff is experiencing.

“This is weeks and this will go on for weeks,” Cuomo said, adding, “And you have people showing up into really dangerous situations.”

The conversation transitioned to his brother, Chris Cuomo, asking him what he thought of Trump’s suggestion that healthcare personnel may be “hoarding” equipment, as IJR previously reported.

“It’s a very vague thing, it went out the back door, I don’t know. I don’t know what that means,” Andrew Cuomo said, adding, “It’s a very vague reference, you should ask the president.”

Resources are being shipped to New York as the state continues to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and treat those infected with it.

The USNS Comfort arrived in New York on Monday to provide 1,000 hospital beds to assist healthcare personnel in treating those not infected with the virus to help open up more hospital beds to those who are, as IJR previously reported.
