Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) predicts Americans will see a change in the conversation around how states are handling the COVID-19 pandemic now that President-elect Joe Biden (D) will be heading to the White House.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Cuomo what he wants to see from Biden in terms of a national strategy for tackling the outbreak.

Cuomo noted the nation is approaching the worst two months of this wave of the pandemic as the “numbers are going crazy” across the United States and the globe.

He argued if the Trump administration implements a “flawed vaccination plan” it is going to be very difficult for the Biden administration to “turn it back.”

Cuomo claimed when Biden takes office, the politicization of the coronavirus will dissipate.

“I think you’ll see a different tone now. I think you’ll even see some governors start to take a different tone now that Mr. Trump is out of office. I think the political pressure of denying COVID is gone. I think you’ll see scientists speak with an unmuzzled voice now and I think the numbers are going to go up and Americans are going to get how serious this is,” Cuomo said.

During his first speech after being declared the winner of the presidential election, Biden promised to do everything he can to bring Americans together, as IJR previously reported.

“I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify. Who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States. And work with all my heart with the confidence of the whole people to win the confidence of all of you,” he said.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former head of the Food and Drug Administration, predicted the United States will not be able to hold a traditional inauguration for Biden due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, as IJR previously reported.
