Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is continuing to join in on the ongoing joke about him being the Zodiac Killer.

The Texas senator shared a story from The Hill that said the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) case into the Zodiak Killer was still open, he wrote, “Noooooooo!!!!!!!!”

The Zodiac Killer operated in the 1960s and 1970s and murdered at least five people in northern California. As Vox explains, “The perpetrator of these crimes was never identified, and the combination of the mystery with the publicity-seeking and cinematic flourishes — like signing his letters with a distinctive symbol and communicating in code — have made the killings a subject of national fascination for decades.”

“The point is the Zodiac Killer’s true identity was never discovered, and he may well still be at large,” the outlet added.

Cruz’s tweet refers to an ongoing joke among social media users that Cruz is the Zodiac Killer, which “appears to have originated way back in 2013 on the @RedPillAmerica Twitter account, which quipped during Cruz’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference that the subject of his address was going to be a confession of responsibility for the Zodiac Killer’s crimes.”

The outlet notes, “An exhaustive investigation by the Washington Post’s Philip Bump reveals that Cruz was born in 1970, while the Zodiac Killer’s first confirmed murder occurred in 1968. Therefore Cruz is not the Zodiac Killer.”

The FBI’s confirmation that the case is still open comes after a team of independent investigators claimed to have identified the identity of the killer, who they say died in 2018.

Cruz shared that story on Thursday morning with faux relief:

The FBI told The Hill in a statement, “The Zodiac Killer case remains open. We have no new information to share.”

“At this time we are not identifying potential suspects for this open investigation,” it added.
