Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) blasted the Biden administration over reports that the president is in discussions to pay immigrant families that were separated under the Trump administration.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday Biden is considering offering immigrant families roughly $450,000 a person in compensation, citing individuals familiar with the matter.

The Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are reportedly weighing payments that could reach nearly $1 million per family.

Crenshaw responded to the report on Twitter, saying, “Biden wants to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 for their hardship while breaking our laws.”

He added, “For perspective, if a service member is killed in action, their next of kin gets an insurance payment of $400,000. Let that sink in.”

Crenshaw is not the only Republican to slam the Biden administration over the report.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told Fox News, “Think about this: you’re going to pay people half a million dollars who broke the law. At the same time, the Biden administration is getting ready to raise taxes on the hardworking American families of this country—it makes absolutely no sense.”

He continued, “First, you break the law you get amnesty with Democrats. Now they’re going to pay you for breaking the law. I mean you think we have a problem in the caravan coming towards the border now and what we’ve seen over the last several months, wait until the word gets out that you actually get paid for breaking the law to come into our country.”

Jordan called it “one of the many stupid policies from this administration.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tweeted, “Absolutely not.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called it “pure insanity,” adding, “It’s a slap in the face to our law-abiding citizens who wake up, go to work, and pay their taxes.”

Pure insanity. The Biden administration is reportedly looking to pay $450,000 to illegal immigrants who knowingly broke the law.

It's a slap in the face to our law-abiding citizens who wake up, go to work, and pay their taxes.

Fox News reported earlier this week the United States has had more than 1.7 million encounters with migrants at the southern border in fiscal year 2021.
