Singer Aaron Carter’s cause of death has been revealed.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Carter died from accidental drowning, per Fox News.

The effects from substances such as “difluoroethane and alprazolam” were listed as contributing factors for his death.

Difluoroethane is a gas used in household products such as “compressed air dusters” that can be inhaled for recreational use, according to the National Library of Medicine.

Alprazolam is the brand name for Xanax, via Everyday Health.

According to the department, “Paramedics were called to the location, and Mr. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:14 a.m.”

“On the morning of November 5, 2022, Mr. Carter was found submerged in the bathtub at his residence located in Lancaster by his reported housekeeper, who called 911 and was instructed to begin CPR,” the coroner said in a release.

Carter’s body was then taken “to the department’s Forensic Science Center for examination.”

On November 6, 2022, the full autopsy was completed on Carter, and “the cause of death was certified on April 14” following the “receipt of relevant test results.”

Carter died on November 5, 2022. He was 34 years old.

Musician Dan Wright and friend of the “I Want Candy” singer claimed that he was “proud of being five years sober.”

“He would always say that,” Wright added.

Wright also said that Carter would use the slang term “Cali sober” which means the user partakes in drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana but avoids other substances.

However, Carter did take Xanax for a “very long time.”

In an interview with The U.S. Sun in September, Carter claimed that he was maintaining his soberity in hopes to regain custody of his then 10-month-old son, Prince.

“I haven’t had any relapses or anything like that, it’s just triggers are big right now for me [and] I want my son back,” he shared.
