As some Democratic operatives are urging the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to skip the fall debates, President Donald Trump’s allies say there should be more than three.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said she believes there should be more debates because Trump and Biden are unable to hold physical campaign events to promote their messages.

“The country deserves to have the two party nominees who want to be president, leader of the free world out there as much as possible, addressing issues, answering all of your questions, and showing a great contrast,” Conway said.

She continued, “I’m very happy to see the president’s campaign manager Bill Stepien this morning on TV say that they would like to have more debates. I think that’s healthy for democracy, particularly when it’s an unusual year in so many ways.”

Additionally, Conway said she believes Americans would “love to have more than three 90 minute opportunities to watch their two party nominees battle it out and give you a contrast, give you a choice as a voter.”

Conway’s comments come as former White House spokesman Joe Lockhart argued in an op-ed published on CNN that Biden should avoid debating Trump.

“Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump. Trump has now made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post,” Lockhart said.

He continued, “It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.”
