Comedian Tim Young says country singer Jason Aldean is a “victim of cancel culture” and predicted it would backfire.

In an interview with Fox News, Young said the attempt to try to cancel Aldean in response to his new song, “Try That in a Small Town,” would fail. He pointed out the hypocrisy of people being offended over his song while supporting songs that promote “drugs, violence and sex.”

Aldean’s new song talks about the disorder, crime and rioting which occurred during the 2020 riots, while also talking about what it feels like to grow in a small town where rioting and violent protests aren’t tolerated.

The song begins with Aldean singing about people carjacking old ladies, robbing liquor stores, stomping and burning the American flag, cursing at police officers, and suckerpunching strangers on the sidewalk. “Try that in a small town,” Aldean then says.

“Aldean is a victim of cancel culture, but as we’ve seen recently, conservatives have finally learned how to be heard with their money and how they spend it,” Young told the outlet, predicting that it would have the opposite effect.

“It’s interesting how the Left will cancel a song about how crime isn’t welcome in a town, yet push songs that glorify drugs, violence and sex,” Young told the outlet.

Young predicted that Aldean would be earning “more money” and be selling “more tickets” in response to the backlash he has received.

Aldean responded to the criticism that his song was “pro-lynching” after people pointed out that the Maury County Courthouse seen in his music video was where an 18-year-old African-American man had been lynched in 1927.

In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous.…

“Try That In A Small Town, for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief,” Aldean explained in a Twitter post. “Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences.”

Since receiving backlash and being accused of promoting racist and pro-lynching messaging in his music video, Aldean’s song has reached the #1 spot on the iTunes charts days after the music video was removed from CMT.
