Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to struggle to define her own role in the Biden administration during an interview with “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.

Colbert talked to Harris about the show “Veep” during her appearance on the show Thursday night.

“One of the themes of the show is that her character, Selina Meyer, is frustrated by the sometimes vague duties of the role. It’s a high constitutional office but does not describe what you’re supposed to be doing. Does that ring true? Like, what’s the actual role on a daily basis as you have found it?” Colbert asked.

Harris replied, “Well, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is the President of the United States … and was vice president.”

Colbert asked, “Does he understand what it’s like to be vice president?”

Harris explained, “He does, he does. He really is a true partner and he understands that job. And remember, we came in during the height of the pandemic. And so much of the work was about OK, we’ve got to cover a lot of bases and let’s figure out between us how we can do it.”

She continued, “But he’s an extraordinary leader and I wish people could see what I see because there’s only one person who sits behind that Resolute desk. And the decisions that person has to make are the decisions that nobody else in the country can make. And he’s an extraordinary leader. He really is.”

After the applause Colbert responded, “That’s an excellent answer and, uh, the question was what’s the job of the vice president.”

The vice president responded with one of her laughs.

Colbert added, “And your answer is part of the job, I’m guessing.”

She proceeded to refer to her recent visit to the Munich Security Conference in February.

“I declared that we, the United States of America, believe that Russia has committed crimes against humanity,” Harris said.

Kevin Toebr, news analyst for NewsBusters, added, “She’s the dumbest Vice President since Joe Biden. Which is funny because Joe Biden is the dumbest man to ever serve as President.”

Turning Point USA contributor Isabel Brown suggested, “We are literally living through an episode of Veep.”

HBO’s description of the show “Veep” explained it stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the “Vice President of the United States in this hilarious HBO comedy series.”

It continued, “Each episode follows her whirlwind day-to-day existence as she puts out political fires, juggles public and private demands and defends the interests of the chief executive–with whom she shares a uniquely dysfunctional relationship.”
