Co-hosts of “The View” appeared to become confused after Whoopi Goldberg suggested the Holocaust is “not about race.”

During the show on Monday, the co-hosts discussed book censorship. They mentioned Art Spiegelman’s graphic novel about the horrors of the Holocaust, “Maus,” was removed from a school’s curriculum.

“This was the plan with these anti-history laws that started being passed. These CRT — alleged CRT laws — started being passed,” Sunny Hostin said.

She added, “I don’t think people saw far enough into the future. You start banning discussions about race, and then you start banning discussions about the Holocaust, then you start banning discussions about the LGBTQ community. That’s where it started, and this was all very planned in my view.”

Joy Behar chimed in, adding, “If you teach a white kid what happened to his friend who happens to be black, he might feel terrible about what happened. That doesn’t mean he feels bad that he did something.”

She continued, “This is the confusion they’re creating I believe.”

Goldberg proceeded to claim, “The Holocaust isn’t about race. No. It’s not about race.”

Behar pointed out the Nazis “considered Jews a different race.”

Goldberg argued the Holocaust is about “man’s inhumanity to man.”

Ana Navarro replied, “But it’s about White supremacy.”

Suggesting her co-hosts are “missing the point,” Goldberg explained, “The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. That’s the problem. It doesn’t matter if you are Black or White, because Black, White, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other.”

“So is it — if you are uncomfortable if you hear about Maus, should you be worried — should your child say, oh my God, I wonder if that’s me? No. That’s not what they’re going to say. They’re going to say, I don’t want to be like that,” Goldberg said.

Several took to Twitter to react to Goldberg’s comments.

The Nazis were 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 with race. Over & over, they declared Jews an inferior race polluting the Aryan master race. In 1939, Hitler declared that his goal if war came would be "the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe."@WhoopiGoldberg's ignorance is scary. https://t.co/67DRjVFJYT

WTF? This is insane. The extermination of 6 million Jews wasn’t about race???
Will any rock stars or renegade royals now boycott Whoopi Goldberg and/or ABC for this dangerous misinformation? https://t.co/KWlYGp91o7

a whoopie cushion has more sense & decency than this dummie https://t.co/tnsqdMltYW

Great reminder that Whoopi claims to be Jewish but doesn't practice the religion, has no Jewish ancestors, and changed her name to "Goldberg" before embarking on an acting career.

How's that for "cultural appropriation?" https://t.co/RdY73DICnP

Wow, @WhoopiGoldberg is so wrong on this – the failure of understanding our history is one of the reasons why Anti-Semitism is still growing like a cancer – prejudice and hate in all its forms must be extinguished and called out. https://t.co/Cdn4tL53xf

Spiegelman’s graphic novel is topping Amazon’s list of best-selling books.
