Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is sitting down with Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris to offer her advice on how she can prepare for her upcoming debate with Vice President Mike Pence.

During an episode of Clinton’s podcast, “You and Me Both,” she asked Harris how she is preparing and what it feels like to do so.

“The difference between this debate and the debates in the primary are, you know, many and in particular that then it was mostly about speaking up about my position on various issues as compared to my colleagues on the stage,” Harris said.

She continued:

“This time it will be about, you know, requiring some level of knowledge, if not mastery, of Joe’s record, the vice president, Mike Pence’s record, Trump’s record and then, of course, defending my own record. So that’s different in terms of the process. But I guess the biggest thing, just to be candid with you, is to be prepared for what is, I think, very likely to be a series of untruths.”

Clinton suggested Harris should prepare for efforts to “diminish” her personally and as a woman.

Listen to the podcast below:

Harris stressed she does not want to be the fact checker and Pence is going to have to be “accountable” for the things he says during the debate.

“Well, and, you know, he and Trump will say anything and assert anything. Like, ‘What a great job we did on the coronavirus,'” Clinton said.

She continued, “And, you know, people are sitting there going, what is he talking about? But you will be well-prepared.”

Their exchange comes just days after an explosive presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, as IJR previously reported.

The vice presidential debate is scheduled for Oct. 7 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will be moderated by Washington Bureau Chief of USA Today Susan Page.
