Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) claims former President Donald Trump is “poisoning our democratic system” by spreading his claims about the 2020 election.

In a statement on Monday Trump said, “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!”

Cheney fired back on Twitter, “The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”

She was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump following the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6.

During an interview with Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman, Cheney stood by her decision to vote to impeach the former president, as IJR reported.

When talking about facing a primary challenger, Cheney said, “So anybody who wants to get in that race and who wants to do it on the basis of debating me about whether or not President Trump should have been impeached, I’ll have that debate every day of the week.”

Sherman replied, “And you might be having that every day of the week.”

Cheney explained, “I might be. But I think it really, really matters that we not go down the path of every election cycle, you know, something like what happened can happen again.”

During an appearance on Fox News last month Cheney was also asked, “If Donald Trump were the 2024 nominee, would you support him?”

She responded, “I would not.”

When asked by the New York Post if she is ruling out a run for president herself, Cheney responded, “I’m not ruling anything in or out — never is a long time.”
