Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is sharing whether she is ruling out a run for president.
“I’m not ruling anything in or out — never is a long time,” Cheney told The New York Post.
She suggested the Republican Party has “a huge number of interesting candidates” and “we’re going to be in a good position to be able to take the White House.”
Taking a swipe at senators who objected to the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election, Cheney said, “I do think that some of our candidates who led the charge, particularly the senators who led the unconstitutional charge, not to certify the election, you know, in my view that’s disqualifying,” she said.
Cheney continued, “I think that adherence to the Constitution, adherence to your oath has got to be at the top of the list. So, I think, you know that certainly will be a factor that I’m looking at and I think a number of voters will be looking at as they decide about ’24.”
“Confident” she will win her primary, Cheney acknowledged it “is clearly going to be an important one.”
Cheney said she is “more than happy anytime and any place to debate anybody who wants to about what happened on Jan. 6 and why our oath of office requires that we make sure that that never happens again.”
The Wyoming Republican is hopeful Republicans can take back the House and Senate as well as the White House.
“I think that the policies of deregulation, tax cuts, of defending the United States, those are policies that are really important. And, and I think you know, I’m confident that we can build a coalition that’s a winning coalition,” Cheney said.
During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Cheney was asked if she would support former President Donald Trump if he was the party’s nominee for president in 2024, as IJR reported.
“I would not,” she said.
