Radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Monday refuted his co-host’s theory that Vice President Kamala Harris is experiencing enhanced scrutiny because she’s “a black woman.”

Harris became the Democratic nominee in July after President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed her, despite the vice president receiving virtually no primary voter approval. Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” argued that the process leading to Harris’ nomination is the reason for the additional scrutiny after co-host Loren LoRosa suggested it is because of the vice president’s race and gender.

“Every time she puts something on the table, it’s going to be scrutinized. They’re going to break it apart, just like when every time Donald Trump puts something on the table, it’s scrutinized, break it apart,”  Charlamagne said. “J.D. Vance been explaining these cat lady comments for two, three weeks, you know what I’m saying? And he should have to.”

LoRosa expressed agreement with everything Charlamagne said, but asked, “Do you not feel like it’s heightened a bit or sensationalized a bit because of her being a woman and a black woman?”

“I think it’s heightened and sensationalized for her because she came onto the campaign with, what, 90 days to win? People got 90 days to make a decision. So, after the debate ended, and then a week later or however it was, she became the nominee — or not officially the nominee, but everybody said she was going to be at the top of the ticket,” Charlamagne said. “She didn’t give an interview for three weeks. You know why everybody made that such a big deal? Because she only had 90-plus days to win. Now she got 70-plus days to win. Because of the nature of her campaign and how she became the nominee, that’s why she’s going to get even more scrutiny.”

Harris has not conducted a single sit-down interview or press conference since launching her campaign. Harris-Walz campaign communications director Michael Tyler said during an Aug. 14 interview that the vice president will sit down for an interview by the end of August.

Women voters told former CNN host Don Lemon in a Tuesday video that they don’t want to vote for Harris just because of her race and gender.

“I voted for Obama because he was black. I don’t want to vote for her because she’s the first black woman to run for president or to win,” one woman told Lemon. “It has to change. And now I vote more for what fits me better as a person rather than voting for the black person or voting for the first woman.”

CNN senior political analyst Nia-Malika Henderson recently claimed Harris being “a black woman” automatically makes her the “underdog” in her campaign against President Donald Trump.
