Former President George W. Bush is paying tribute to the late conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

“Laura and I are sorry to learn that Rush Limbaugh has passed away… While he was brash, at times controversial, and always opinionated, he spoke his mind as a voice for millions of Americans and approached each day with gusto,” Bush said.

He continued, “Rush Limbaugh was an indomitable spirit with a big heart, and he will be missed.”

Limbaugh died on Wednesday morning after battling lung cancer, as IJR reported.

“Losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life,” Kathryn, his wife, said while announcing the news on his radio show.

Former President Donald Trump told Fox News on Wednesday he spoke with Limbaugh “three or four days ago,” as IJR reported.

“He was very brave. He, in theory, could have been four months ago, really. He was fighting to the very end. He was a fighter… just a great gentleman,” Trump said.

He continued, “He was a fantastic man, a fantastic talent, and people, whether they loved him or not, they respected him. They really did.”

Trump said “it was a great honor” to award Limbaugh with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“We gave it during the State of the Union address, and it was… especially half the room, half the room went crazy, and the other half the room, they knew he should get it, but it was special, and he was special,” he explained.
