U.S. Senator Richard Burr said on Tuesday the Justice Department had closed its investigation of stock trades he made last year before a market downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Tonight, the Department of Justice informed me that it has concluded its review of my personal financial transactions conducted early last year. The case is now closed,” Burr, a Republican from North Carolina, said in a statement.

Burr said in March that he relied solely on news reports to guide decisions on stock sales, amid reports he sold shares after private briefings on the risks of the coronavirus crisis.

Burr stepped aside as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee in May as a temporary measure during the investigation.
