MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski is decrying so-called “cancel culture” after co-host of “The View” Whoopi Goldberg was slapped with a two-week suspension over controversial comments she made about the Holocaust.

During a segment of “Morning Joe” Wednesday, Brzezinski said, “Everyone knows Whoopi Goldberg. She’s been on TV for decades … If you don’t know her heart, then you haven’t been watching.”

“And so that’s why the two-week suspension, to me, seems more about something else and something that maybe we need to start putting something behind us: which is this unbelievable need to punish and judge people when they’ve made a mistake,” she continued.

Finally, Brezinski said, “This is something that is just going to start getting ridiculous. I mean if Whoopi Goldberg is canceled…that would be the end. This cancel culture is getting so out of hand. There are so many positives that could happen out of this mistake, and instead, I feel like it’s headed in the wrong direction.”

Co-host Joe Scarborough also weighed in, asking, “What am I missing here?”

“I was, like, what is she talking about? She made a terrible mistake. We all make terrible mistakes. We apologized immediately and took corrective actions,” he said.

Scarborough asked, “Who is so frail over at ABC? Who was so frail out there that they can’t understand when somebody makes a mistake, apologizes for the mistake, and takes all the corrective actions that can be taken for that mistake, and they’re still suspended for two weeks?”

Goldberg found herself in hot water earlier this week over comments she made about the Holocaust in which she insisted it was “not about race.”

The co-host apologized for her comments, but on Tuesday night, Kim Godwin, the president of ABC News, announced Goldberg would receive a two-week suspension from the show.

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities,” Godwin said in the statement.
