WNBA star player Brittney Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, opened up about how she is doing in Russian detention.

During an interview with “CBS Mornings,” Cherelle Griner was asked what she sees when she sees her wife.

“BG is at her absolute weakest moment in life right now,” Cherelle Griner explained.

She continued, “She’s very afraid about being left and forgotten in Russia, or just completely used to the point of her detriment.”

According to Cherelle Griner, the basketball star is saying things to her like “my life just don’t even matter no more.”

In her own message to her wife, Cherelle Griner said, “Your life matters to me.”

She added, “I want to get you back home, and I’m going to continue to pray everyday that the decision makers in this situation will have mercy, and will sit down and they will too see your life matters and do whatever they can to agree on terms.”

Reuters reported earlier this week the White House called on Russia to provide a counter-offer to the trade offer for the release of Brittney Griner.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “We need to see a serious counter-offer.”

In February, Brittney Griner was arrested and later convicted on drug possession charges.

She was sentenced to nine years in prison last month.

Last month, President Joe Biden met with the families of Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan who are both being held in Russia.

“The President held the meetings to reiterate his continued commitment to working through all available avenues to bring Brittney and Paul home safely,” Jean-Pierre said at the time.

She added, “He asked after the wellbeing of Elizabeth and Cherelle and their respective families during this painful time.”

The president reportedly “appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Brittney and Paul from those who love them most, and acknowledged that every minute they are being held is a minute too long.”
